The Coffee & Magic Verdict
Hollywood Gardens has surprised us. Given where it sits, right in one of the busiest parts of Disney Adventure World, we expected it to feel hectic. Instead, particularly upstairs, we have found it surprisingly calm and easy to use.
A lot of that comes down to the design. We love the illuminated trees and the way the whole space feels almost like an outdoor terrace that happens to be covered. It is bright enough to feel open, but still has enough atmosphere to make it feel like somewhere you can actually sit for a while rather than just eat and move on.

The food has been consistently good for us too. The cheeseburger is very nice, it arrives quickly and the whole ordering process is straightforward. It is still essentially quick-service park food rather than somewhere we would go for a special meal, but it does that job really well.
Rankings
We actually use Hollywood Gardens for more than meals. It has become somewhere we are quite happy to stop for a coffee, sit upstairs and watch people moving through the park below. The coffee itself is the same Lavazza you will find elsewhere, but the setting makes the break feel better.

What eating here is actually like
Downstairs is where most of the activity happens. You order there, collect food there and naturally get more people moving backwards and forwards, so it can feel noticeably busier.
Once you head upstairs, though, the atmosphere changes. That is where we always try to sit. It feels much more relaxed, you are removed from the ordering traffic and you get a great view for people-watching.
The fake trees and lighting work far better in person than they perhaps sound on paper. They give the restaurant an almost outdoor feel and soften what could otherwise have been a very large, functional quick-service dining hall.
Ordering is easy and self-contained, and in our experience food has come out quickly. The cheeseburger has been one of the better straightforward burger options we have had in the parks. For children, the star-shaped chicken nuggets are also a nice Disney touch rather than just serving completely standard nuggets.
What we'd do
We would head upstairs whenever we can.
If we were eating here, we would order downstairs, collect everything and then immediately look for an upstairs table rather than settling near the busy collection area.
We would also happily use Hollywood Gardens outside normal meal times. For us it works particularly well as a mid-afternoon coffee stop when we want to sit down properly without committing to a table-service restaurant.
The people-watching from upstairs is a big part of why we like it, so we would choose a table overlooking the main space if one is available.
