If meeting Mickey Mouse is on your Disneyland Paris list, there are two straightforward ways to do it without paying for a character dining experience.
There are, of course, plenty of other opportunities to see Mickey during a trip.
You might spot him in the parade, and he will sometimes appear above Main Street around the Disneyland Railroad station, particularly as guests are arriving or leaving the park. We have seen plenty of other characters appear there too.
There are also paid experiences, including character dining, where Mickey may appear.
But if you want a proper Mickey Mouse meet and some photos together, these are the two options we would concentrate on.
Before you plan your Mickey meet
Virtual Queue availability can change, so always check the Disneyland Paris app on the day of your visit. You need to have entered the park before joining, and places are subject to availability.
Meet Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland
For us, this is the best way to meet Mickey.
The dedicated Meet Mickey Mouse location is in Fantasyland, close to Toad Hall Restaurant. We have done this on every Disneyland Paris trip, but the experience is considerably better now than it used to be.
Previously, you simply joined the physical queue.
And it could be painful.
You could lose a significant chunk of your park day standing inside waiting for your turn, which is exactly the sort of thing we try to avoid at Disneyland Paris.
Now the meet uses a virtual queue through the Disneyland Paris app, and for us that is a huge improvement.
Rather than standing in line, you join the virtual queue on your phone and then carry on enjoying your day. When it is getting close to your turn, the app tells you when to head across to Meet Mickey Mouse.
We genuinely wish more character meets worked like this.
For us, the biggest advantage is simple: we do not have to spend a big chunk of the day standing in a queue.
Be ready before booking opens
Places can disappear quickly, so do not wait until the booking window opens before sorting your app out.
Make sure you are already logged into the Disneyland Paris app and that your booking and everyone in your party are linked correctly.
Booking waves normally open several times during the day, but if meeting Mickey is important to you, we would treat it as something to sort as soon as the relevant booking window opens.

What happens when you meet Mickey?
When the app tells you it is time, head across to the Meet Mickey Mouse location.
Once you are inside, the actual meet feels nicely separated from everything else rather than Mickey simply standing somewhere in the park with a queue stretching away from him.
You get your own time with Mickey, which makes it feel like a proper character experience rather than a quick photo as people move past.
There is normally a Cast Member and a photographer there too.
You can take your own photos and, in our experience, the Cast Members have been happy to help with photos on your phone as well.
Professional photos can also be taken for PhotoPass. If you have PhotoPass, you can add them to your account, while there is also the opportunity to view and buy photographs after the meet.
Why we prefer the Fantasyland meet
This is the one we choose.
The important difference is not really the Mickey Mouse outfit or the setting. It is the fact that we do not have to spend 45 minutes standing in a queue.
We can join the virtual queue, go and do something else and return when the app tells us to.
At Disneyland Paris, where there is always something else we would rather be doing, that is a massive advantage.
Meet Mickey Mouse at Adventure Way
Your other option is Mickey’s meet at Adventure Way.
This is a little different because Mickey is not wearing his traditional outfit. He appears in his Victorian-style costume, so you get a different-looking Mickey Mouse photo from the Fantasyland meet.
The meet itself takes place in the covered character area towards the top of Adventure Way.
And this one works the old-fashioned way.
There is no virtual queue and no reservation.
You arrive, join the queue and wait.
Depending on when you visit, that could mean spending something like 45 minutes standing in line before you reach Mickey.
For some people, that will not matter. You can simply arrive whenever suits your plans rather than worrying about securing a virtual queue reservation.
For us, though, that is the main reason we favour the Fantasyland meet.
Given the choice between spending 45 minutes standing in a character queue or carrying on around Disneyland Paris while our phone effectively holds our place for us, we will take the virtual queue every time.
A little Adventure Way Mickey tip
There is one other opportunity that does not really count as a proper meet, but it can be a lovely little moment.
Mickey has to make his way to and from the Adventure Way meet.
We have seen him walk up from the Worlds of Pixar direction towards the covered meeting area in his Victorian outfit.
If you happen to be sitting on one of the benches nearby, having a snack or simply taking a break, you may be lucky enough to get a wave or even a quick high five as he walks past.
Do not plan your day around it because it is not a scheduled meet-and-greet opportunity.
But if you are already in the area, keep an eye out.
Which Mickey Mouse meet should you choose?
For us, Meet Mickey Mouse in Fantasyland is the easy choice.
Both experiences give you a proper Mickey Mouse meet. Both allow you to take your own photographs, and both normally have PhotoPass photography available.
The big difference is how you wait.
Fantasyland
Join a virtual queue, carry on with your day and come back when you are called.
Adventure Way
Arrive whenever you like, but stand in a conventional queue until it is your turn.
We simply do not want to spend 45 minutes of a Disneyland Paris day standing in a character queue if we can avoid it.
The Adventure Way meet does have one nice advantage: Mickey’s Victorian outfit makes the photos different, so if you are particularly keen on character meets or want that specific look, it may be worth doing.
But if you simply want that classic moment of meeting Mickey Mouse?
