Is Disney Sequoia Lodge Worth Staying At?

There is something genuinely special about Sequoia Lodge.

The woodland setting gives it a completely different feel from the brighter, grander atmosphere of Newport Bay or the more modern Marvel hotel.

It feels warmer, quieter and more intimate.

For us, that atmosphere is one of the main reasons we keep coming back.

We first stayed at Sequoia Lodge 17 years ago.

On a recent visit, the rooms were still very recognisable from that first stay.

They were comfortable enough, and the theming was still nice, but they were undeniably tired and dated.

That is why it is so exciting to see the first images of the new room designs, with refurbished rooms due to become available from February 2027.

The overhaul feels long overdue.

One important thing to know is that Sequoia Lodge is not ideal for families of five or six who want to stay together in one standard room.

You will generally need two rooms.

That was one of the main reasons we moved away from Sequoia Lodge years ago when our family grew and started staying at Newport Bay instead.

On our most recent trip, with fewer of us travelling, we were finally able to return to Sequoia for the first time in around nine years.

And we remembered very quickly why we had always loved it.

The character meets at Sequoia Lodge can be really good.

The problem is that the advertised times often clash with Extra Magic Time.

That means you can end up having to choose between making the most of early park access or staying at the hotel for a character photo.

We have also randomly come across characters later in the day, which is brilliant, but those appearances are not always advertised.

We would love to see more scheduled character opportunities throughout the day, more like the approach at Newport Bay.

This is another area where Sequoia Lodge really shines.

The indoor pool is lovely, with a slide and jacuzzi, and the whole area feels like it belongs in a woodland lodge.

There is also an outdoor pool. It is smaller, and because of the trees it does not get full sun for much of the day, but the setting is still very pleasant.

There is a Disney shop, two restaurants, a gym and fitness facilities, plus one of the cosiest bar and lounge areas anywhere in the Disney Hotels.

And then there is the fireplace.

For us, sitting around that fire when it is cold outside is one of the defining Sequoia Lodge experiences.

If your budget stretches to Golden Forest Club, we would seriously consider it.

The rooms tend to be better located, which means less walking around what is still a fairly large hotel.

That convenience makes a noticeable difference, particularly at the end of a long park day.

For us, Golden Forest is usually the preferred option when staying here.

There is no major catch for us because we genuinely love Sequoia Lodge.

But there are a few things worth considering.

The older rooms have been tired, some rooms can be a fair walk from the main lobby, and larger families may need two rooms.

There is also a significant refurbishment underway, so it is worth checking what work is taking place around your stay.

None of those things change how we feel about the hotel, but they can affect the experience.

Without hesitation.

We have been staying at Sequoia Lodge for 17 years, and there is still something really special about it.

It is cosy, relaxing and brilliantly themed, and it remains one of the Disney Hotels where we genuinely enjoy spending time.

For us, though, it is at its absolute best in the colder months.

Our verdict: Sequoia Lodge is one of the most atmospheric places to stay at Disneyland Paris. The rooms have needed updating, but the setting, pool, lounge, theming and overall feel still make it one of our favourites.
