Our verdict
The setting is gorgeous and in the colder months it feels exactly right. The weakness has been the tired rooms and dated interiors, although the refurbishment should materially improve that.

Winter trips; cosy atmosphere; woodland setting
Coffee & Magic Tips
Allow around 15 minutes to walk to the parks, and add a little more at busy times or with younger children.
Use the shuttle when you want to save your legs, but walking can still be quicker at peak times.
