Halloween is brilliant, but it helps to plan for the season

Disneyland Paris feels very different at Halloween, here are 5 Things to Know Before You Go.

The decorations, colours and atmosphere make it one of our favourite times to visit, but late October also brings earlier sunsets, colder evenings and a decent chance of rain.

A few small things can make a big difference to the day. If we were planning another Halloween trip, these are the things we would keep in mind.

It gets dark earlier than you think

By late October, the evenings draw in quickly.

That is not necessarily a bad thing. Disneyland Paris looks fantastic after dark, especially during Halloween, but it does mean you should think about what you want to do while there is still daylight.

If there are particular decorations, photo spots or outdoor areas you want to see properly, try to get to them earlier in the day.

Then go back and see them again at night.

Halloween at Disneyland Paris feels completely different once everything lights up, so staying into the evening is absolutely worth it.

Use the daylight wisely

The seasonal decorations are one of the biggest reasons to visit at Halloween.

There are pumpkins, autumn displays, character decorations and photo opportunities all over the parks, and some of them are much easier to appreciate before the light starts to go.

We would use the daytime for wandering around, taking photos and soaking up the details, rather than leaving everything until later.

You do not need to turn it into a military operation, but if photos matter to you, it is worth being aware of how quickly the light disappears.

Be ready for rain

A wet day does not have to ruin Disneyland Paris.

There are plenty of indoor attractions, covered areas and places to stop, but soggy clothes and wet trainers can make a long park day much less enjoyable.

We would always take lightweight waterproofs and sensible shoes at this time of year.

An umbrella can help, but something you can throw on quickly is usually easier when you are moving between rides, queues and restaurants.

If the forecast looks poor, pack for it properly rather than hoping it will miss you.

It can get really cold

One of the easiest mistakes to make is dressing for the afternoon.

You can have a perfectly pleasant few hours during the day, then suddenly find yourself freezing once the sun goes down.

Layers are your friend.

A jumper or hoodie you can carry during the day is much better than spending the evening wishing you had brought one.

If you are staying for the nighttime atmosphere, shows or simply another few rides after dark, you will probably be grateful for the extra layer.

Stay after dark

This is the big one.

Whatever you do during the day, try not to leave too early.

Halloween at Disneyland Paris really comes alive once it gets dark.

The lighting changes, the decorations feel more atmospheric and the whole park has a different energy compared with the daytime.

We would absolutely make time to see the Halloween areas twice: once in daylight, then again after dark.

That contrast is one of the best parts of visiting at this time of year.
