Loads of character and probably the strongest theming of the value hotels. You're further from the parks and lose the pool, but it feels much more Disney than a generic off-site room.

The case for it

Why stay here?

One of the strongest Disney themes without moving into the premium hotel prices.

Toy Story and the Wild West setting make the hotel itself fun for younger children.

You still get Extra Magic Time and Disney Hotel benefits while keeping more of the budget for the trip.

The riverside walk means you are not completely dependent on the shuttle.

The walk to the parks

The walking route follows the river towards Disney Village before you continue through security and on to the parks. It is flat and easy to follow, but it is a noticeably longer walk than Marvel, Newport Bay or Disneyland Hotel.

Where the checkpoint fits into the journey

You reach the Disney Village security screening near the end of the walk. For Extra Magic Time, allow for the full hotel-to-security route plus whatever queue has formed at the checkpoint.

The practical bit

The path is buggy friendly and mostly very easy. The distance is the issue rather than the surface, and the hotel itself is spread across separate Wild West buildings, so room position can add more walking before you reach the river path.

What it feels like after a long park day

The riverside walk is fine when everyone still has energy, but after fireworks it can feel long. This is one of the hotels where the free shuttle becomes more appealing at the end of a very big park day.

Our choice

Walk or shuttle?

We would mix it. Walk when the weather is good and everyone is fresh, then use the shuttle when tired legs make the extra distance feel unnecessary.

Where you actually sleep

What the rooms are like

The rooms are simple but the Toy Story styling does a lot of work. They feel more fun than luxurious, which is exactly the point of Cheyenne. If your children love Woody and Jessie, the room can feel more Disney than a technically more expensive hotel.

Living with the roomSpace, storage & family practicality

The standard room configurations are easy for families of four and the layout is straightforward. For us, location within the hotel matters more than chasing a room upgrade because a closer building can make mornings and late returns easier.

Worth knowingThe biggest drawback

There is no pool and the rooms are deliberately basic compared with the premium hotels. You are buying theme, Disney benefits and value rather than a hotel you expect to spend half the day using.

How practical is it?

Cheyenne is particularly good for younger children because the theming starts before you reach the room. The outdoor setting, play areas and Toy Story detail give them something to enjoy even when you are not inside a park.

Characters

Meeting characters at the hotel

Woody, Jessie or other Disney friends can appear for hotel character encounters in the main hotel area, with the exact line-up changing.

Check the board or hotel information when you arrive. The timing can overlap with periods when you would otherwise be using Extra Magic Time, so decide which matters more that day.

The meet can be popular because the characters fit the hotel theme so well. It is still usually easiest to do when you are already at the hotel rather than making a special return from the parks.

Our advice: If Woody or Jessie is a priority, this is one hotel meet we would actively check. Otherwise treat it as a bonus and protect your best park time.

Downtime

Is the pool worth using?

There is no swimming pool, so downtime here is more about slowing down in the hotel grounds, having a drink or letting children use the play areas. If pool time is important, that is a meaningful reason to look at Sequoia, Newport Bay or Marvel instead.

Eating here in practice

Chuck Wagon Café and Red Garter Saloon cover the basics well enough that you do not have to head back to Disney Village every evening. The food offer matches the hotel: straightforward, themed and family friendly rather than occasion dining.

What it means for your trip

A day staying here

Morning

Getting out of the hotel can take a few minutes depending on your building, then you have the full riverside walk and security ahead of you. For Extra Magic Time, we would leave more margin than the headline walk time suggests.

Coming back during the day

A midday return is possible, but it is less tempting than from the lake hotels because the round trip is longer and there is no pool waiting for you. We would usually come back only if the family genuinely needs the reset.

Evening

At the end of the night, decide based on legs rather than principle. The walk is perfectly manageable, but the shuttle can be the better answer when children are exhausted.
