Santa Fe is one of the simplest Disney Hotels, but that is also part of its appeal.

You still get the big benefits of staying on-site, including Extra Magic Time, free parking and Disney transport, without paying the prices of the hotels closer to the parks.

The Cars theming gives the rooms plenty of personality, particularly for younger children, although the hotel itself feels much more functional than somewhere like Sequoia Lodge or Newport Bay Club.

For us, it makes most sense when the price difference is significant and you expect to spend the majority of your time in the parks.

Why stay here?

Usually one of the cheapest ways to keep the Disney Hotel benefits.

Cars theming gives children a clear Disney identity without paying for a premium property.

Extra Magic Time and the free shuttle can matter more than the hotel specification on a park-heavy trip.

It works best when you want a practical base and expect to spend most of the day in the parks.

The walk to the parks

The route follows the river towards Disney Village and the park entrances. It is straightforward and flat, but this is one of the longer Disney Hotel walks, so the headline time matters more here than it does at the lake hotels.

Where the checkpoint fits into the journey

You pass through the Disney Village security screening before reaching the parks. If you are aiming for the start of Extra Magic Time, allow for both the longish walk and the checkpoint rather than leaving the hotel at the published opening time.

The route itself is easy with a buggy. The challenge is distance, plus the fact that Santa Fe is spread across separate accommodation blocks, so a room near the main facilities can make a noticeable practical difference.

What it feels like after a long park day

After a full day, this is where Santa Fe's location feels most basic. The walk is still doable, but the shuttle can save the final stretch when everyone has had enough.

Walk or shuttle?

We would use both. Walk when it suits the day, but do not feel any need to prove a point by walking back late at night when the free shuttle is there.

What the rooms are like

The rooms are simple, colourful and clearly Cars themed. They are not trying to feel premium, and we would judge them on whether they give you a clean, practical base rather than compare the finish with Marvel or Disneyland Hotel.

For a family of four, the room setup is straightforward. The useful upgrade is often location rather than luxury, particularly if you want to reduce the amount of walking between your room, breakfast and the hotel exit.

Worth knowingThe biggest drawback

This is the most basic Disney Hotel experience. There is no pool and fewer reasons to spend leisure time at the hotel, so the value depends on how much you care about retaining Disney Hotel benefits while keeping the room cost down.

How practical is it?

Santa Fe makes sense for families who are park first. Children still get obvious Cars theming and a Disney Hotel atmosphere, but the hotel is less about downtime and more about giving you a themed place to sleep between park days.

Characters

Meeting characters at the hotel

Disney Character appearances take place in the hotel, with the exact character and setup changing over time.

Check the current information in the hotel rather than relying on an old schedule. If the meet clashes with Extra Magic Time, we would normally protect the quieter park hour unless the character is a priority.

It is a useful extra because you can meet a character without entering a park queue, but it can still draw a crowd at convenient times.

Our advice: Treat it as a bonus around breakfast or the start and end of the day. Santa Fe works best when the hotel supports the park trip rather than becoming the focus of it.

Downtime

Is the pool worth using?

There is no pool. If you know your family benefits from a swim or substantial afternoon hotel break, the saving over Sequoia or Newport Bay needs to be big enough to make that compromise worthwhile.

Food & drink

Eating here in practice

La Cantina gives you an easy on-site meal and the bar is useful for a quieter evening. It is functional rather than destination dining, which fits the way we would use the hotel.

A day staying here

Morning

Leave enough time to get from your accommodation block to the main route, then factor in the riverside walk and Disney Village security. This is not the hotel where we would cut Extra Magic Time timings too fine.

Coming back during the day

We would be less likely to come back for a short break here because the return journey is longer and there is no pool. If somebody needs a proper rest, though, that still matters more than squeezing in another ride.

Evening

Use the shuttle without guilt after a long night. Walking is perfectly possible, but the practical advantage of staying in a Disney Hotel includes having that transport option when everyone is tired.
