Why stay here?

A walkable Disney Hotel with a much cosier, more relaxed feel than the larger nautical or Marvel hotels.

The woodland setting works particularly well in autumn and winter.

The pool gives families a proper reason to come back during the day.

It can offer a useful middle ground when Newport Bay or Marvel is noticeably more expensive.

The walk to the parks

The route takes you from the hotel towards Lake Disney, through the Disney Village security screening and on to the park entrances. It is flat and straightforward, with the wooded hotel grounds making the first part feel calmer than the park approaches.

Where the checkpoint fits into the journey

You use the Disney Village security screening on the way to the parks. Build that into your timings for Extra Magic Time rather than treating the published walk time as the exact point at which you reach the turnstiles.

The practical bit

The park route itself is easy with a buggy. The bigger variable is where your room is, because Sequoia uses the main building and separate lodge buildings, so some stays involve more walking before you even leave the hotel grounds.

What it feels like after a long park day

The walk back is pleasant and the hotel feels properly removed from the bustle once you reach the trees. In colder months especially, coming back into the warm lodge atmosphere is part of its appeal.

Our choice

Walk or shuttle?

We would usually walk. The free shuttle is useful in bad weather or with very tired children, but the walk is manageable enough that waiting for a bus often feels unnecessary.

What the rooms are like

The rooms have always been more about warmth than polish. The Bambi-inspired look is cosy, but the older rooms can feel tired compared with Marvel or the refurbished Disneyland Hotel. The ongoing refurbishment means the exact room experience can vary while the work continues.

Living with the roomSpace, storage & family practicality

For a family of four, the standard room setup is straightforward and works well enough for several nights. The real practical decision is often location: main-building convenience versus one of the quieter separate lodges.

Worth knowingThe biggest drawback

Room age is the main compromise. We like the hotel atmosphere more than the old room finish, so until refurbishment is complete we would go in expecting character and comfort rather than a pristine premium room.

How practical is it?

This is a very easy family hotel to understand. There is a pool, character appearances, a relaxed setting and a walkable route to the parks. It feels less hectic than the value hotels without becoming formal.

Meeting characters at the hotel

Disney Characters appear at the hotel, usually in the main public areas rather than out in the separate lodge buildings.

Check the current hotel information when you arrive. Character line-ups and times can change and may not line up neatly with Extra Magic Time.

It is convenient if you are already back at the hotel, but queues can still form. We would not give up a large part of a park morning simply because there is a hotel meet available.

Our advice: Use the meet around breakfast, a break or the end of the day. It works best as an extra benefit of being back at the hotel, not something you build the whole morning around.

Downtime

Is the pool worth using?

The pool is one of Sequoia's strongest practical advantages. It makes a midday hotel break feel worthwhile, especially on longer trips where everyone benefits from a few hours away from queues and crowds.

Food & drink

Eating here in practice

Hunter's Grill and Beaver Creek Tavern make it possible to stay in the hotel for the evening, while Redwood Bar is particularly well suited to the cosy lodge atmosphere. It is a hotel where a quieter night can feel like a positive choice rather than settling.

Morning

Allow time to get from your room or lodge building to the main exit before you start counting the walk to the parks. From there, it is a straightforward route through security and Disney Village.

Coming back during the day

A room or pool break is realistic because the hotel is still walkable. If you are in one of the outer lodges, factor the extra internal walking into whether a very short break is actually worth it.

Evening

The return gets better as the resort quietens down. The final wooded approach and lodge atmosphere are a big part of why we think Sequoia works especially well for a winter trip.
